What measures would be implemented to reduce construction noise?
There are established codes of practice for limiting any nuisance caused by noise during construction. Best practical means would be employed to minimise noise levels, such as silencers on equipment and the proper maintenance of equipment. Other measures proposed include restriction on operating hours and sensible routing of equipment onto site.
Construction noise would vary according to the stage of construction. We anticipate that any nuisance would be confined to a relatively short period, during the site establishment and laying of foundations early in the construction process.
How noisy is the site?
One of the positive reasons for selecting the Sleaford site is the distance from the site to the nearest dwellings (some 550m away). This distance, combined with noise reduction measures within the site, would ensure that the noise levels experienced at neighbouring properties would be only marginally higher than the existing background levels. The margins are such that the noise created by the plant would not be noticeable.
Would there be any noise during the night?
Operation of Sleaford REP would be a 24 hour activity and there would be some noise at night. However, many activities (notably the acceptance of fuel) would be suspended overnight. Just as with daytime levels, the environmental statement has demonstrated that residual noise levels would not cause any nuisance.
Has noise caused by fuel deliveries been accounted for?
This has been evaluated and the results show that there would be no noticeable increase in noise levels as a result of the increased traffic.
