Welcome
After months of detailed analysis, our plans to build a straw-fired renewable energy plant near Sleaford were given the green light by local planning officers and all relevant experts. Unfortunately, the proposals were narrowly rejected at the planning committee stage. We believe this is a beneficial and important project for Sleaford and we will press on, taking into account the views expressed at the meeting.
The project has significant national and regional benefits, as summarised below:
- 40MW renewable energy in base load operation
- Output equivalent to 65,000 homes
- 250,000 tonnes CO2 saved per year
- Local straw contracts c.£6m p.a.
- 30 jobs in operation; 50 in fuel supply
- Ash is recycled for fertiliser
Planning Application Resubmission
Eco2 has submitted a revised planning application for the Sleaford Renewable Energy Plant which includes a new, lower profile architectural treatment. This aims to address concerns raised by the Planning Committee which narrowly rejected the original proposal by a slender margin of 18 to 16 votes, chiefly on grounds of visual impact.
The lower building outline reduces the height of the plant's boiler house from 32.5m to 29.2m and the straw storage barns from 18.0m high to 15.3m. This, coupled with extensive on-site and off-site landscaping and planting, will do much to reduce the impact on the surrounding landscape.
